Nestled along the Willamette River between Corvallis and Albany, Truax Island could be the perfect spot for wildlife like salmon and pond turtles. There’s just one problem with the 128-acre property: A failing metal culvert has blocked would-be restorers from removing invasive weeds that are choking out the native vegetation and keeping fish from swimming between the river and its tributary.
The good news is that PGE’s Habitat Support participants have helped fund a restoration plan to install a new culvert and revitalize the area’s floodplains over the long term — as well as open the property for recreational use. Thanks to you, Truax Island will soon have happier fish, turtles and people.
